What is the FFFF?

The First Frame Film Festival (FFFF) began in 2023 with the mission to “provide a platform to honour the contributions of amateur filmmakers, both behind the camera and on screen”.

The festival will yet again return for a new 2025 season, with a new committee with sights set on making this year’s festival more ambitious than ever.

When will it be and where?

The festival will be held on the 11th - 12th April 2025.

The festival will be Located on the University of Leicester campus within the Attenborough Building Film Theatre.

What are its Notable Events?

The film festival will screen an array of short films from around the world. The film’s will be varied in their genres, consisting of an array of animation, live-action fiction, and documentary shorts. Although the film list has not yet been released to the public, FFFF’s organisers have promised that every film screened will present both advanced levels of “technical competency” and “creativity”.

This year’s First Frame Film Festival will offer a greater level of audience input, as its quiz will allow eagle-eyed film viewers to test their memory and knowledge about the film’s they have just seen. The festival’s organisers also intend to include at least one guest speaker to “break up the film screenings”.

What is the Theme of the Festival?

New for this year’s FFFF is the introduction of a consistent —and committee selected theme—shared by all the festival’s screened films. This year’s theme of “Earth and Nature” was selected to spotlight “nature’s effects on humans and animals”. The theme was made to be intentionally broad to allow for the screening of a variety of different films that consist of different themes and messages.

Do I need Tickets?

Although not required, this year’s FFFF committee are encouraging all planning to attend this year’s festival to claim their free online ticket so they can gauge interest for the event. You can book your free ticket Here

What is the Future of FFFF?

This year’s FFFF committee have high hopes that the festival will “keep growing year on year”. The 2025 season received a record breaking “over 1500” short-film submissions during its curating process, so it is evident to see that there is a demand from filmmakers to keep the festival running annually, so they can showcase their talent and work.
